Safety Committee Updates

Learn about the work of the Safety Committee, formed in February for the purpose of developing policies and procedures to assure the safety of our SMR ACA Morning fellowship.

Our Mandate

This group was formed at the request of the GC Secretary and announced at the February Business Meeting on 02.20.23. The mandate was to take input from the two special Safety Meetings held on 02.09.23 and 02.16.23 and put together some Safety Policies and Procedures to bring to the membership of SMR for review and approval. Lisa M was asked to facilitate the committee by GC Secretary, Jean, who also announced its formation during several subsequent morning meetings.

There are six members on the committee: two elected trusted servants, two previously elected trusted servants, and two fellows that have been coming to the meetings for at least six months. Two members are also on the ACA WSO Safety Resources Committee. The committee began meeting in mid-March and meets every other week. We currently meet on alternative Saturdays at 3 PM ET and our next meeting is on 04.15.23.

Our Approach

To complete this work, we are taking the following steps:

  • Completing a draft policy and process for all elements of safety, for members, trusted servants, and the fellowship as a whole.
  • Once completed, we will host several roundtable discussions after Newcomer sessions to gather input, including ideas for revisions, additions and deletions.
  • Documentation will be finalized, then presented to the membership for approval at an upcoming business meeting. It will also be posted on the website, including source documents, so all fellows may review in advance of the business meeting review.
