Issue: I move that the script we use at our SMR meeting be reviewed, edited and brought before the membership for voting; that the method of updating the script follow the process used previously; and that beyond minor edits, an opportunity to announce group service needs, for 2 or 3 minutes, be incorporated into the ‘pre’ or opening of the meeting.
Background: The group has done this before. We have had a thorough and thoughtful review of our morning meeting script, line by line, and brought the proposed changes, in 3 sections, to the members for adoption. The members suggested the changes and approved the changes. It’s time that we go over our script again.
As an example, the script says the Business meeting is on Mondays, although the day was changed to Sundays, long ago. Also, in the Breakout Rooms, the script reads “someone will keep time for you,” while in practice most (basically all) host actually say, “I will keep time for you.” And somewhere in the script is a remaining ‘Good Morning”, while we have generally removed time references, being a global community.
Given our continual need for members to be of service to the group, there would be a benefit to announcing current service needs at the start of the meeting while a majority of members are still in attendance. This would be a new addition to the script, the details to be worked out by the membership.
References: The documentation of the original script review is linked here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jQd4O3isjWmMO-aG-2hACTgsyTGNMhgr?usp=sharing
Please note: The many files in the folder linked above relate to the last revision of the script and indicate the thoroughness of the task. The basic process, which will be repeated was to:
- Present to the members the current script, sentence by sentence and ask for suggested changes.
- Fashion the proposed changes into measurable, workable amounts.
- Convene a working group of all interested members to discuss the suggestions, one section at a time, and determine a new wording where desirable.
- Present the suggested changes, section by section, to the members of SMR, either for adoption or for continued editing.
- Celebrate a new, improved script.
Aside from including a space to identify service needs, the purpose of this review primarily is to bring the script up to date with current practices, not to change the basic format.
We should update the script
Yes!
Agreed!
can you add “Keep your fucking mouth shut, if you are not the one providing service at this moment” or some other language to shut up the member who is habitually, constantly and continually interjecting and interrupting service members who are trying to do their jobs
An update script including “group service needs” is a motion I second.
I support this motion!
I support this motion. Group service needs announced regularly is definitely needed.
