Motion 24 – 6: A Town Hall discussion of the SMR Business Meeting script

This motion passed with 13 yes vote no votes opposed.

This motion is being offered by the Business Meeting STUDY Group.

Issue:  As a final step in developing a script for our monthly Business Meeting, we would like to:

  1. Read the comments of the membership as to the script that has been developed.
  2. Provide a forum for members to develop the details of the business procedures.
  3. Formally adopt the script at that forum.

The script is offered below in the Background.

Please look through the following report, which has the results of our recent survey, as well as the Business Script, to date. There are a few areas that will require a more details to be worked out. We are asking for your help. Please offer your comments.

Thanks Heather. We corrected the typo. By the way, we also made the experience a lot more informative and comfortable by linking the information in a report. It now includes the survey results.

Thanks Heather. I corrected the typo, but as I see, only in the references section of the script. lol. More importantly, we added a link to a report that includes the results of the recent survey as well as the Business Meeting script. Much much more informative and readable. Thanks for participating.

I appreciate the time and attention given this matter. I think it works. Thank you for bringing this for the group to review, I believe it offers transparency. Nice work everyone.

So much work evident in all this, thank you!!
Honestly, I really start to check out when long readings occur, like if all the Concepts were to be read. I may be wrong but to me the purpose of the business meetings is to increase the efficacy of the actual ACA meetings, not to become recovery meetings in themselves. (although they can be good models of healthy communication) To that end, I am in favor of really streamlining the time taken for readings and such so we can get to the update reports and current business of the meeting itself. Opening up by laying out guidelines for respectful behavior and discussion time limits is very helpful, but lengthy readings from the BRB for example are a struggle for me to wait through no matter how much I want to stay and hear or contribute to refining the details to improve how our actual recovery meetings work. Thank you for all your work!!!

    Thank you Dom,
Recently I was at a business type meeting that read a smartly pruned version of the Commitment to Service. I think they read 3 or 4 statements out of the 9. Perhaps we could do the same.

Thank you, Biz Study Committee, for all your hard work!

I could see a Townhall presentation of the work done by the committee over the last year, and I could see following the script for one Sunday Business Meeting to see how it flows. And then to have a motion to adopt the new script.
