Motion 24-13: A New Set of Meditation Slides

The Motion has been Adopted

The motion received 92% approval. There were 28 votes. 3 members had no opinion. Of the remaining 25 votes – Yes: 23, No: 2

We will repeat the process that was used originally – calling for submissions, publishing them on our website and conducting a vote to choose our meditation images. Listen for announcements.

This motion is being put forward by Jim R

Issue: I move that we repeat the meditation slide selection process so that we may have new slides for use during our morning meeting.

Background: About 2 years ago the SMR members were offered the opportunity to submit slides that could be used during the 2-minute silent meditation. Members were then able to vote on the slides they liked best. The top 4 were selected for random use during our meetings.

I suggest we repeat this expressive group activity. Basic parameters would be set – submission format; text requirements. And the current slides would also be offered as an option for selection.

Members would vote for their favorites. If there are a lot of entries, this may have to be conducted in two rounds.

The particulars can be worked out, similarly to the original slide selection process. This could be an enjoyable activity to encourage member participation.

If the motion does not pass, would it be worthwhile to have a Town Hall type discussion of the issue?

This could be fun if there are service members who want to take the lead. It would be a nice refresh for the meeting

I’m always up for beautiful soothing pictures. If people want to submit new ones, I’ll vote on them.

We all have different images to elicit calmness. I love the idea of an annual change-up reflecting the choices of the group. Thank you.

To me it seems like a kind of invitation to a creative process that can foster a greater sense of investment in our ACAMorning meeting. I’m in favor of the motion.
